The Last Great Taste of Hoi An

Oh Hoi An you make me joy my heart!!! If you take away the World Heritage Listed sites in the beautiful old town, the 250 tailors ready to whip up anything from a techno-colored suit to tiffany jewels and the friendly locals, one of the best things you will be left with is her beautiful, complex, delicious, colorful cuisine and the best way to discover this, as I found out on my last trip, is by doing one of Neville’s tours - The Last Great Taste of Hoi An!

We were picked up from our hotel at 0715 and whisked away to join the rest of our group (15 of us in total) in a local market, which was the starting point of our foodie adventure.

Neville is one of the few people I have met who is more excited about food than me and this shines through throughout the morning. He is a wealth of knowledge, enthusiastic and passionate about both Vietnam and food.

Throughout our walking tour we stopped at both local vendors, local restaurants as well as 2 tasting rooms and got to sample over 40 different treats. Everything from ice cream to vietnamese coffee to traditional sweets to ‘white rose’ to bahn mi to watermelon seeds to Pho noodle soup to salty lemon juice ‘margaritas’.

Ice Creams

One of the highlights for me was the way Neville explained Vietnamese cuisine to us all and it’s place in Vietnamese culture. Explaining how it is used not only to bring families and friends together but how eating is a national pastime and is often used as medicine which is something I feel we have lost in the west.

I have been lucky enough to visit Vietnam over a dozen times and I can honestly say that I learnt more on Neville's morning tour than I had on all my other trips combined. On top of this Neville has a list of must do foodie experiences throughout Vietnam available to anyone who wants them... this type of local info is invaluable and worth the cost of the tour in itself!

Basically all I can say is get yourself on one of his tours - a definite highlight for this passionate foodie!
