Packing list for your holiday

Too many times I have found myself on holidays with half a bag full of stuff that I don’t wear while wishing I had other stuff!!! I have turned up on a work trip with no undies, on a beach getaway with no swimsuit, to the snow with no scarf or gloves… you get the drift. I now have a little checklist before any trip – I hope it helps you on your next adventure and hit me up below with your number one packing tip!!!

The most important thing to pack on any holiday is your patience and sense of humor!!

Here are some other things you may want to have on your packing list:

  • PJs
  • 2 pairs of shorts – one pair that covers your knees
  • 1 smart casual dress
  • 7 pairs of underwear
  • 2 bras – 1 sports bra
  • 4 shirts/singlets – one that covers your shoulders, one dressy
  • 1 hat
  • 2 pairs of long pants – 1 dressy
  • 1 skirt
  • Light water proof jacket
  • Scarf (very handy for the plane and bus rides or to cover up when visiting temples etc)
  • Swim suit
  • Sarong
  • 2 pairs of comfy walking shoes (in case one breaks)
  • 1 pair of dressy shoes/sandals
  • Any gym gear you may need
  • Mozzie repellent scarf – AWESOME for any adventure to tropical destinations, you just put it around your neck, head, chop it up and use around your ankles and the bugs stay away!!!

If heading to cold countries I would add in the following:

  • Comfy dress boots
  • 2 Jackets
  • 1 Jeans
  • 1 Beanie/wool hat
  • 1 Gloves
  • 1 Vest
  • A really good moisteriser

Toiletries and Misc.*

  • Deodorant
  • Body wash
  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Sun screen
  • Face wipes
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste/floss
  • Zip lock bags of different sizes (handy to put your phone etc in for boat rides or in the rainy season)
  • Mozzie repellent
  • Tampons etc
  • Prescription drugs
  • Nail clippers
  • Tweezers
  • Dry Shampoo
  • Some washing powder in a double zip lock bag
  • Sunglasses
  • Some local currency
  • Credit Cards
  • A travel towel
  • Nice cheaper jewelry (best to leave your expensive jewels/watches at home!)
  • Makeup – tinted moisturiser, mascara, blush, lip gloss
  • 1 nice travel handbag with a long strap that will do diagonally across your body (safer)
  • A copy of all your travel docs, passport, credit cards, insurance poilcy etc (I also email a copy to myself as well as leave a copy with a friend at home)
  • Shower caps make great shoe covers (reader tip)
  • Packing cells (reader tip) are awesome to stop your stuff exploding, you can divide all your clothes up! Check them out HERE

First Aid Kit – I include the following in mine:

  •  Tea Tree Oil – a natural antiseptic
  •  Bandaids
  •  Oil of wild oregano (a natural antibiotic)
  • Re-hydration sachets
  • A good pro-biotic (good to start taking a couple of weeks before your trip to get your belly ready for different foods)
  • A bandage
  • A good cream that stops itching from mozzies/heat rashes etc
  • Aloe Vera gel

*Be sure to see your doctor to see what is the best for you, this is simply a list of what I take.

What I take on the plane:

  • ONLY 1 small carry on bag which doubles as a day pack in my destination
  • A neck pillow
  • Socks
  • Scarf
  • Cardigan
  • Face wipes
  • A small pack of tissues
  • Throw away toothbrush (the little waterless Colgate ones are excellent)/floss
  • Deodorant
  • A good book
  • All my travel docs (ALSO make sure you have the name of the hotel/hostel you are going to be first staying at as some countries require you put this on immigration forms, a couple of spare passport sized photos are always handy to have in your Docs wallet)
  • iPad/computer/smart phone
  • Some local currency
  • 2 pens (important for immigration/visas etc)
  • Passport PLUS one other form of ID (license, proof of age card)
  • Credit Cards

My choice of luggage:

I have a Samsonite suitcase which I LOVE as well as an awesome backpack and use both depending on what type of trip I am going on. If I know I am going to be staying in Hotels, doing a tour, if I have accommodation etc already sorted I will lean towards my suitcase and I have the BEST suitcase. It is a beautiful Samsonite with 4 wheels and believe me – once you have experienced a suitcase with 4 wheels there is NO going back, she practically walks herself! To check her out click HERE. If I am backpacking, if I don’t have accommodation sorted, if I know I will be getting on and off alot of different modes of transport I will always opt for my pack. This makes it easy to get around, less hassle and just looks cooler! HERE is my pack.

Couple of tourists with backpacks resting on the stone steps of ancient temple, excursion in town. Summer hiking. Hike adventure, travelling of young man and woman

It is also important to have a decent day pack for all your adventures on your trip. HEREs my pick.

Wear everything AT LEAST 2-3 times before you go away

Pack light (room for shop shop shopping!!!)

Have a practice pack at least a couple of days before you leave

Place everything you want to take on your bed – half the clothes and double the money!
